Importing Topics
Overview
BCF Topics service supports importing Topics using BCF standard compatible BCF files.
Important: The BCF files contain only Topics data. Often the Topics refer to models via 3D views. The models need to be uploaded to the Trimble Connect project separately as the model files are not included in the BCF files.
Supported Import Formats
BCF Topics service supports importing Topics using buildingSMART BCF standard compatible BCF files. Import supports the following buildingSMART BCF-XML standard compatible file formats:
BCF-XML version 2.1 (.BCF)
BCF-XML version 2.0 (.BCFZip)

Import Dialog
Drag and drop
Upload local BCF / BCFZip files by dragging over container or click “Browse” to add the files. The added files will be listed at the bottom of the dialog in the “Selected files” section.Assignee
A Topic in Trimble Connect must always be assigned to Trimble Connect project member(s) or user group(s). During the import the Topics service will check that the assignee of an imported Topic is a valid project member. If the assignee is not a project member, then the import will fail. Use the “Assignee” input field in the “Import BCF Topics” dialog to automatically assign imported Topic(s) to valid project member(s) so the import can succeed.Default Values
The default values for Type, Status, Priority, Due Date and Tags will be used only if an imported Topic is missing the data.Update Topic project settings checkbox
If this option is selected, the import automatically adds any new Topic “Type”, “Status”, “Priority” or “Tag” values into the project settings as allowed values.
The project settings define the possible values for the Topic “Type”, “Status”, “Priority” and “Tag” fields. When importing a Topic created in another software application, it might have Type, Status, Priority or Tag values that don’t match with the allowed values in the project settings. In this case the import will fail. The “Update Topic project settings…” option can be used to automatically add the new values into the project settings, allowing the import to succeed.
